# Businesses

> How the businesses you serve map to isolated sets of books.

Your **partner account** is the top of the tree. Every **business** you serve is a sub-account
under it — an isolated set of books with its own chart of accounts, journals and statements. Data
never crosses between businesses.

```text theme={null}
Partner (you)
├── Business  biz_9f2   — Bluewave Logistics Ltd
│   ├── Chart of accounts
│   ├── Journals
│   └── Statements
└── Business  biz_1a7   — Northside Pharmacy Ltd
    └── ...
```

## Creating a business

Create a business with its country and base currency. The optional `industry` picks the
chart-of-accounts template used when you provision accounts.

```bash theme={null}
curl --request POST \
  --url https://api.3ringscapital.co/v1/businesses \
  --header 'Authorization: Bearer 3r_live_•••' \
  --data '{ "name": "Bluewave Logistics Ltd", "country": "NG", "baseCurrency": "NGN", "industry": "logistics" }'
```

## Your own identifiers

Pass `externalId` to tie a business to the identifier in your own system. It is returned on the
business record so you can reconcile without storing our IDs separately.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The **base currency** fixes the currency the books are kept in. Journals in other currencies are
> converted at post time (multi-currency support is on the roadmap).
